Dr. Andrew Pavelescu is a surgically trained, board certified, podiatric foot & ankle surgeon with extensive training in all aspects of reconstructive surgery, sports medicine, as well as general podiatric medicine of the lower limb in both children and adults. Dr. Pavelescu specializes in musculoskeletal deformities, sports medicine, and reconstruction and revision surgery of the foot & ankle. Particularly, Dr. Pavelescu has a personal interest in minimally invasive surgery and regenerative medicine. He is double certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, in surgical reconstruction of the foot & ankle, and by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine, in medicine of the lower limb. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
Dr. Pavelescu has spent many years specializing in disorders that specifically affect your feet and ankles, and as such, he not only understands the complexity of the foot & ankle, but also the very real effect that lower extremity problems have on his patients’ lives. To restore normal function and mobility, as quickly and effectively as possible, Dr. Pavelescu combines his specialized training and experience with the latest medical and surgical innovations to create an effective individualized treatment plan for each of his patients. As a foot & ankle specialist in New York City, Dr. Pavelescu has a reputation of listening carefully to his patients’ needs and goals and is sure to address them correctly the first time.
Dr. Pavelescu completed his residency and training at one of New York’s top surgical programs in the Department of Orthopedics at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, an affiliate of Weill Cornell Medical College. In addition to his residency, he received supplemental training at the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics, in Baltimore, in lower limb deformity correction. Furthermore, Dr. Pavelescu received advanced training in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery by the AO Foundation, and also completed additional training in hyperbaric medicine, limb salvage, and wound care.
He earned his medical degree from The Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, in Cleveland, an affiliate of Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, where he was awarded with the Presidential Scholarship and earned distinction as a member of the Pi Delta National Honor Society. He graduated in the top 10% of his class. Dr. Pavelescu received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Wayne State University, in Detroit, where he was recognized on the dean’s list throughout his matriculation.
Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Pavelescu is actively involved in teaching and resident education. He is a core teaching faculty member at both NYU Langone Hospitals and NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens. He is trilingual and fluent in English, French, and Romanian. Dr. Pavelescu is a member of the New York State Podiatric Medical Association (NYSPMA), where he was elected to, and serves on, the Board of Trustees. He is also actively involved in health policy with the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA).
